Public Transport

The hotel is set in the spectacular West Coast of Ayrshire in Seamill, close to West Kilbride and overlooks the stunning Firth of Clyde across to Isle of Arran. It is approximately 5 miles north of Ardrossan and 8 miles south of Largs.

Public Transport In Seamill

The hotel is well connected to various destinations in Ayrshire and the Central Belt and guests are encouraged to use public transport wherever possible. There are bus and train services available.

Bus

The main bus service runs from Ayr to Greenock, allowing guests to visit the beautiful seaside town of Largs, north of Seamill, and travel south to Prestwick and Ayr. The service is operated by Stagecoach and is the Clydecoaster service number 585. The service operates 7 days a week and at frequent intervals. The bus stops right outside the Seamill Hydro hotel and a timetable is available at the stop. You can also download a PDF copy of the up-to-date timetable here.

Stagecoach also operate the 585A service, which runs from Stevenston to Largs Monday to Friday, between the hours of 18:30 and 23:30.

Shuttle Buses also operate a service between Kilwinning and Largs, service number 50. It operates Monday to Saturdays and only at peak times, one service running from Kilwinning to Largs in the morning and return late afternoon from Largs to Kilwinning. A copy of the timetable can be found here.

Train

The nearest train station is located in West Kilbride, which is 1.1 miles from the hotel. The hotel operates a free courtesy bus service for all guests and residents to transport them to and from the train station.

The train service is operated by Scotrail and connects visitors to Largs, Kilwinning and Glasgow. Visitors are able to travel to Wemyss Bay, Greenock and Gourock by transferring trains at Paisley Gilmour Street. Visitors can also travel south to Irvine, Troon, Prestwick, Ayr and Stranraer by transferring trains at Kilwinning.

The main train service runs from Glasgow Central to Largs via Ardrossan and Kilwinning and operates 7 days a week. A copy of the timetable can be downloaded here.

Plane

Visitors and guests have good connections to nearby airports using the Scotrail train service: Glasgow International Airport and Prestwick International Airport.

For Glasgow International, guests and visitors should depart at West Kilbride train station and alight at Paisley Gilmour Street Station for a regular bus service that runs to the airport.

For Prestwick International, guests and visitors should depart at West Kilbride train station, depart and transfer at Kilwinning train station to platform 1 for the Scotrail service direct to Prestwick International airport.

Boat

Guests and visitors are well connected to the local ferry terminal at Ardrossan Harbour (5 miles south of Seamill). The service is operated by Caledonian MacBrayne (“Calmac”) and sails to the stunning Isle of Arran, where you can connect to the Isle of Jura and Islay.

Guests and visitors are also within reach of sailing to the beautiful Isle of Bute, with regular sailings from Wemyss Bay, operated by Calmac. To get there, travel on the train to from West Kilbride in direction of Glasgow, depart and transfer at Paisley Gilmour Street for Scotrail service to Wemyss Bay.

You can also visit the lovely little Isle of Cumbrae, located directly across from Largs. To get there, travel on the train from West Kilbride to Largs or take the Clydecoaster service 585 to Largs. The service is operated by Calmac with daily sailings from Largs.
